Guide to choosing a motherboard selection
Guide to choosing a motherboard selection
Considering an upgrade from your current i5-3570K with a 650TI boost and OCZ Vertex 4 (throwback), I’m mainly focused on CSGO but open to exploring other titles. I’m looking at options available locally at the Microcenter in Westbury, NY. My options include a Tomahawk non-Max, possibly an open-box MAX, or the ASUS X570-P Prime AMD AM4 ATX motherboard priced at $130 MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX.
I’m also reviewing the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X Matisse at 3.8GHz with 6 cores, and the G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3600 (2x8GB). Other picks are the Corsair RM750x 750W 80 Plus Gold ATX, Samsung 970 EVO 500GB SSD, NZXT H510, and a few cooling solutions.
I’m planning to purchase everything locally and will need to decide between the listed motherboards or explore alternatives.
Obtain an X570 TuF – a top choice among budget-friendly AM4 boards
It's a bit improved, but I'd choose the cheaper option personally.
I noticed that part but didn't catch the prime model. It seems to be a sturdy build, and you could add about $10 for the PCI-1. You might consider a Seasonic 659W PSU for $50 less, or go with a seasonic 659w PSU if you prefer.
In fact, I recommend avoiding the 212 EVO; the Wraith Spire works well enough.
I aim to reach 4.2ghz. It's been over 15 years since I used my 2500+ Barton and danger den blocks with an ehiem pump, yet I still enjoy maximizing performance from my setup.
Irrelevant too — allowing PBO yields superior results compared to a static 4.2GHz boost. In general, pushing Ryzen overclocking usually leads to reduced performance versus letting the automatic features manage it. Turn on PBO and let the processor maximize its speed.
I'm using identical hardware—same CPU, board, and Sapphire RX5700 XT. You're running it smoothly on a Corsair RMX 550 power supply with three SSDs and one mechanical drive. Are you looking for a 550W PSU option at a lower cost to upgrade your SSD or get a larger mechanical drive for better game storage? I recommend going with the CPU cooler; the Ryzen ones tend to get too hot.
