Hi everyone, I'm working with an OVH dedicated server and trying to set up my IPv6 address. I received the IP 2 607:5300:60:4b95::1 but haven't configured the gateway yet.

Are you aware of your default gateway? Its address may differ. You can check it in your router. Do you have access to the router?

In the IPv6 landscape 2 607:5300:60:4b95::1 can serve as the default gateway. The address 2 607:5300:60:4b95 might represent the network 0000:0000:0000:0001 or ::1 could be the first usable host address, typically assigned by the router. Various configurations exist depending on the network setup. Determining the IPv6 gateway isn't always straightforward; sometimes it's simply FE80::1. Since I haven't handled IPv6 recently, I can't confirm that's the correct path. For a hosted service, reaching out to them directly would be the best approach. Attempting to modify their settings without permission might breach your agreement. If you hosted it locally, resolving this issue would be quicker and simpler.

Additional details are required. What was discussed about the address purpose? For static assignments or gateways? IPv6 differs significantly from IPv4. You don't require a gateway to be integrated into your device based on its features. This is what RS/RA serves for. XX::XX:01 isn't always a default gateway IP, as many continue using EUI for addressing.

I contacted OVH but didn't get a reply. Static IP assigned. RS/RA refers to the two main types of network configurations.

It seems you're looking for a more reliable hosting option. I wouldn't want to rely on someone else's setup when urgent support is needed.

Router request or Router Advertisement describes how routers are found and connected. It involves sending your IPv6 address to devices, which then broadcast the default route your server sends to them.
