I’m transitioning to an apartment with only Cox ISP, but I’m considering a RELAY ARRIS - SURFboard S33 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Multi-Gig Cable modem paired with my ASUS RT-AX86S AX5700. I’m unsure if anyone has advice or if it will function properly. Links to the modem and router are available.

Check with Cox about the modems they accept. The S33 stands out among cable modems. I’m on Comcast and noticed some users achieving 1.4 Gbps on their fastest plans. Since that model includes a 2.5 Gbps port, it’s solid. For the router, I’m using Wi-Fi 6, though I haven’t used ASUS devices before. One thing to note is your expected internet speed goals—Cox may not always match Gigabit rates, but multi-gigabit connections are gaining popularity even on cable providers. If you aim for speeds over 1 Gbps, consider a router with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port.
