hello i was curious if cleaning my gpu on a damaged board might harm it.
GPUs and MOBO's typically function well together.
The main issue to focus on is whether your PSU provides sufficient power for the new GPU.
I concur, you should prioritize the power supply more than the motherboard. The PCIe slot provides limited power (around 75 watts, perhaps?), while the remaining power depends on the direct connections to the supply.
Your board is likely built to handle the required power for that slot, so no issues there. Just keep in mind that overclocking your GPU adds a small extra demand on your CPU, though it's minimal.

my build
amd 6300 3.5ghz
coolermaster evo
corsair 500wat psu
m5a78l-m/usb3
currently my cpu is holding me back
which 500 watt corsair?
either way, i think you'll be okay since the 960 doesn't require much power.
to be honest, the main issue isn't severe. You have a solid setup.

the cpu has issues in certain games, it feels like it's not up to the task or just not optimized.
Yeah, my 6300 setup too. Some games that don't use many threads run poorly, while others perform better. If you manage to overclock the chip, it might improve the minimum FPS, but I wouldn't suggest it with your motherboard and power supply.
The 960 isn't the strongest card either, so I believe the 6300 is a solid choice.

It's no surprise when it comes to GTA
Yes, I had mine overclocked to 4.8Ghz lol. It worked fine with GTA V at 1080p. I was getting 60FPS. I used an R9 380 with it.
