GTX 960 fails to detect after installing RTX 4090.
I put in an RTX 4090 by swapping one GTX 960 that I had before. Everything functioned normally then. All connections are connected, the graphics lights up and fans spin, but it isn’t detected by Linux, Windows or the VM install. Details: CPU – AMD Ryzen 9 5900X; GPUs – Gigabyte Windforce GTX 960, MSI Suprim Liquid X RTX 4090 (silent mode); RAM – 64GB Teamgroup DDR4; SSDs – Samsung 990 Pro 1TB, WD Blue SATA drive; OSes – Arch Linux AMD64 Kernel 6.3.1, Windows 10 AMD64; Mobo – Asus Proart B550; Capture cards – Elgato HD60 Pro, Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk.II; PSU – Corsair RM750 (no OCP, others suggest this one). The GPU appears at PCI device nodes 0000:0b:00.0 and 0000:0b:00.1. From `lspci -vk -s 0000:0b:00` I found: 0b:00.0 Non-Essential Instrumentation – AMD; Starship/Matisse PCIe Dummy Function; flags indicate fast devsel, IOMMU group 17. Capabilities list shows several entries. Device info reveals it’s not listed before, but the audio card at that address is missing. Motherboard settings from the UEFI show: PCIEX16_1 Mode GEN4, PCIEX16_2 Mode GEN3, auto modes enabled. Bandwidth and configuration are auto. I’ve tried setting PCIEX16 modes to Auto and matching PCI generations, but it still doesn’t show up. Anyone know what’s happening?
Could you confirm whether running a Gen 4 card on a Gen 3 slot is feasible in your system?
Have you attempted to reset the BIOS? The motherboard might be retaining a compatibility configuration it needed for the 4090, preventing it from returning to its original settings.
