GTX 1660 6GB paired with i5 9400F Cyberpower Special
I'm working on fixing a Cyberpower PC for a friend. The machine has been problematic since purchase. It arrived at a repair shop where a faulty video card was identified. After swapping the warranty with MSI, a new card functioned well in the shop but failed at home. It was sent back and a graphics card swap with another shop’s system resolved the issue—both cards now work. The card was reinserted and the PC died again. I filed an RMA twice; in both cases it stopped working after intermittent use. Recently, I updated drivers and BIOS settings, but it shut down today. I’m concerned about the likelihood of multiple defective cards affecting the same device. I’ve attached a link to the original store listing for reference. Please let me know if anything changes. Thanks ahead.
Other tests performed beyond just swapping the GPU and board
I believe a complete diagnosis was performed at the shop before I received it. I've experienced the computer starting normally one time but failing after shutting it down, then working again without issues afterward. To rule out other problems, I'll use a 1080p monitor instead of my 2k one. Right now, I lack sufficient spare parts to inspect additional components without damaging the PC, which is a challenge I'm trying to avoid.
Several tries to restart failed, and the hard drive didn’t spin up. I swapped the RAM slots and found the 24-pin connector was slightly loose. After fixing that, everything worked again. To confirm the connections stayed secure, I ran a few power cycles and checked for any ongoing video issues.
I located my speaker now, giving me a clearer picture of the situation. I’ve had some stable boots after relocating RAM and reinstalling the GPU. I also added new RAM following advice that the user was adjusting it to work. However, those boots didn’t improve with the new RAM. I’ve tested both PCIe slots and received a 5-beep from an Asrock Z370 Pro4/OEM. According to Asrock, the issue could be related to the CPU or GPU. It seems like I’m stuck on this one.
