Two methods to receive immediate feedback. First, boost the CPU speed. Second, increase resolution and observe GPU usage changes. You might notice lower FPS, but not necessarily the issue. Alternatively, test the graphics card in a more recent setup, which should significantly enhance performance. The 1070 was released when DDr4 became standard; upgrading your platform would likely improve gaming. Pairing it with a 1440 monitor could also make a difference.

There are possibilities within game-engine environments, though I'd be surprised if performance issues stemmed from an engine bottleneck. It seems likely the CPU thread managing the task would run at full capacity. I'm not sure for certain—I don't code game engines—and my current projects are all similar or worse. The only exception is my server, which has slower clocks and lower IPC, but it's still capable of handling 40c80t workloads. I think it might help to try a Win10 VM on the ProxMox install with the Tesla M40, if you're interested.

Well, the first choice isn't available for me because the locked non-K CPU along with the Dell-special motherboard and BIOS stop overclocking. The second option seems possible if FO4 supports it; I’ll just render at a higher resolution and downscale to 1080p, as I don’t have monitors that go beyond that. I’ll verify support and let you know. Unfortunately, I can’t test on a newer system since the house already has the latest one except for Mom’s 2016 MacBook Pro, which won’t work either. The only chance would be if Dad brought home a lab computer from his aerospace job, but that seems unlikely given their security policies.
