Hi Gurus need some light on COIL WHINE
🙁
I could notice there is buzzing sound when playing Counter Strike Global Offensive.
The COIL WHINE IS annoying.
However while paying GTA V , I havent noticed that real bothering COIL WHINE there is barely minimum.
My questions are
Q1. Is COIL WHINE Game dependant ?
Q2. In real world for a 60HZ monitor FULL HD ,if I get something above 100 frames vs something at 60 frames are both same in terms
of online gameplay, will I be able to see and shoot faster if I am on 200FRAMES vs 60FRAMES
Q3. Will I be able to reduce COIL WHINE if I limit the frames to MAX 60 ? does it impact smoothness and quality of online gameplay ?
Q4. Prior to this I used same 1070 8GB , and for the same games I noticed there is no COIL WHINE ? is it something to do with the card (BAD CARD)?
Q5. Is zero noise 1070 8GB cards possible without any coil whine ? or is it something like rule of thumb no matter what ,there will be 20% coil whine for any card ?
Q6. For my build , I think 1070 8GB is over kill , still I could see some worst quality frames in gameplay
like see the barb wire finishing in the image ...FAR CRY 4 running on 1070 8GB....(seetings are optimal in NVIDIA MANAGER)
https://s25.postimg.org/479rbce5b/IMG_20...813005.jpg
Q7. Also my cards Core Clock
1657 MHz
Boost Clock
1860 MHz
But what does the 1949 Mhz i nthis image signify is it being run at over colcked mode
https://s25.postimg.org/6nbkp6w7z/IMG_20...943933.jpg
, also is 66 C some bad temperature just for playing far cry 4 on 60hz monitor

Another user mentioned the issue is common and not a defect. They shared links and advice, noting coil whine varies by game and frame rate.

Q1 - Considering it logically, it's the GPU usage combined with the number of frames rendered that determines coil whine.
Q2 - Your mouse speed and smoothness improve as FPS increases. Upgrading your GPU will require lowering your sensitivity.
Q3 - Reducing frames does lower coil whine because less work is being performed.
Q4 - No, coil whine indicates manufacturing issues rather than a faulty card.
Q5 - MSI offers a guarantee against coil whine; you can request a replacement if it occurs.
Q6 - Absolutely not. Your CPU seems more powerful than your GPU.
Q7 - The 1070 utilizes the new GPU boost, adjusting voltage and temperature to make an optimal overclock. With good temperatures, clocks are high.

Q1 - No. Thinking about it logically, it's how much GPU usage, coupled with how many frames are being rendered that dictate coil whine
Q2- Yes, your mouse speed and fluidity is increased with FPS. This is evident when you upgrade your GPU, you will have to lower your sens.
Q3- Yes, lower frames reduce coil whine as their is less work being done.
Q4- No, coil whine does not mean you have a bad card, however it does mean it was poorly manufactured.
Q5- Yes, MSI is a company that guarantees no coil whine. You can RMA the card if it has it.
Q6- Most definitely not. If anything, your CPU is overkill for your GPU.
Q7- The 1070 uses the new GPU boost which look at your voltage and tempature's, then decides an approcriate overclock. You have very good temps - so you have high clocks.
So I believe , some issue with the card , After paying a premium price of around 400+ $ compromising by limiting the frames to 60hz to get rid of coil whine does not seems a good way...will see if I can RMA the card.
My MOBO is MSI not my CARD
Can you suggest best GTX 1070 in market ?

Q1 - Considering it carefully, it's the GPU load and frame rate that mainly influence coil whine.
Q2 - Yes, increasing your mouse speed and smoothness comes with higher FPS. Upgrading your GPU will require you to reduce sensitivity.
Q3 - Lowering frames does reduce coil whine because less work is being performed.
Q4 - No, coil whine doesn't indicate a faulty card; it simply suggests poor manufacturing.
Q5 - MSI is known for offering products without coil whine. If it has it, you can request a return.
Q6 - Definitely not. Your CPU seems more suited to your GPU than vice versa.
Q7 - The 1070 uses the new GPU boost feature, adjusting voltage and temperature to determine an optimal overclock. With good temperatures, you get high clock speeds. I think a problem might be with the card itself. After paying a premium for around 400+ dollars, limiting frames to 60Hz just to eliminate coil whine doesn’t seem like a solid solution—I’ll check if I can request a replacement.
My preference is MSI, not my card.
Would you recommend the best GTX 1070 available right now?
Yes, I owned one on my XFX. It was bothersome because they insisted on returning it, but my friend still uses it today.
If I purchase a GPU, I’m leaning toward EVGA or MSI. Over the years, I’ve disassembled many GPUs and found that both brands have solid construction. Still, there’s no single "best" GPU since they all rely on the same chip.
It’s likely the company won’t return your card just for coil whine. That’s why MSI is a safer bet—my MSI twin Frozr GTX 980 has no coil whine at all.

Q1 - Considering it carefully, it's the GPU load combined with rendering speed that determines coil whine.
Q2 - Indeed, your mouse performance improves with higher FPS. Upgrading your GPU will require adjusting your settings.
Q3 - Lowering frame rates does reduce coil whine because less work is being performed.
Q4 - Coil whine isn't necessarily a sign of a faulty card; it can also indicate manufacturing issues.
Q5 - MSI offers a guarantee against coil whine. If you have it, you can return it for a replacement.
Q6 - Not at all. Your CPU seems more suited to your GPU than vice versa.
Q7 - The 1070 model uses the latest GPU boost technology, adjusting voltage and temperature to optimize performance. Maintaining good temperatures suggests high clock speeds.
I think a problem might be with the card itself. After paying a significant amount for a card that limits frames to 60Hz to reduce coil whine, it doesn’t seem like the best solution. I’ll check if I can return the card.
My preference is MSI, not my own card.

That statement is incorrect. Coil whine isn’t caused by poor manufacturing; I’ve had Asus Strix RX 480, Strix GTX 1070, and EVGA FTW 1070 cards that produced some coil whine. It doesn’t impact performance and is perfectly acceptable. Sometimes it’s also linked to the power supply unit, but you’d need to listen closely.

Logical thoughts on coil whine, it depends on GPU usage and frame rate.
Q2 - Yes, increasing FPS makes your mouse feel smoother. Upgrading your GPU usually requires lowering your sensitivity.
Q3 - Lowering frames indeed reduces coil whine since less work is being done.
Q4 - Coil whine isn't necessarily a sign of a bad card; it can point to manufacturing issues.
Q5 - MSI offers a warranty for their cards, so if you have one, you can request a replacement.
Q6 - Most likely not. Your CPU might be too powerful for your GPU.
Q7 - The 1070 uses the new GPU boost feature, adjusting voltage and temperature to manage overclocking. Good temps mean high clocks.
So I think there could be a problem with the card, but after paying a high price to limit frames to 60Hz to reduce whine, it might not be worth it. I’ll check if I can get a replacement.
My MOBO is MSI, not my card.
Can you recommend the best GTX 1070 available right now?
Yes, I had one on my XFX. It was bothersome because they asked for an RMA, but I never did. My friend still uses it today.
If I buy a GPU, I prefer EVGA or MSI. I’ve disassembled many GPUs and found these two have solid build quality. But there’s no single best one since they all rely on the same chip.
It’s possible the company won’t replace just for coil whine. That’s why MSI is a good choice—my twin Frozr GTX 980 has none at all.
False claim. Coil whine isn’t due to poor manufacturing; it can come from the PSU or other parts. You might have been unlucky with the card you bought.
If it wasn’t manufacturing issues, why does MSI not guarantee it? They could be affected by the PSU.
No. It’s likely poor assembly. Coil whine happens when caps aren’t glued properly or components are low quality. You’ve had some coil whine with other cards too.
If it wasn’t a manufacturing flaw, why would MSI not cover it? You should stick with MSI.
My MSI twin Frozr GTX 980 has zero coil whine – no sound at all.
False statement. It’s not about the GPU quality but assembly. I’ve owned Asus and EVGA cards that produced whine without affecting performance. Sometimes PSU issues are the real culprit.
