GTX 1060 compatible with no PCIe power connection.
I saw two identical issues on Reddit about an ASUS GPU with red LED lights. One involved a loose cable extender that wasn’t used, and the other had unresolved problems related to the power supply unit, even for the same GPU model. Are there any other PCs nearby you could try testing your GPU on? Also, a basic power supply tester from Amazon should work for checking the PSU, costing roughly $10 to $15.
The VGA indicator on the motherboard suggests an issue with the GPU, though it doesn't confirm the GPU is faulty. The individual LEDs (MOBO and GPU) function independently and aren't coordinating properly.
Addressing this matter for those who follow will help. No alternative options were provided, so I’m treating it as an open case. The best path was replacing the card and buying a new one, which restored my machine to working order. I remain receptive to future ideas, especially if they improve the 1060 for nostalgia. Appreciate your feedback.
I acquired a used version and so far it seems many users face the same problem with this exact model. I haven’t found a fix yet; I plan to test it tomorrow alongside my main system where the PSU appears solid. My confidence is low—I think there’s an issue on the power delivery side of the card, while the logic part seems fine.
I found this discussion while looking into the same problem with my ASUS GTX 1060 DUAL 6GB. It stopped working after I swapped it onto another PC case. After connecting everything and turning on the power supply, the graphics light flickered white then red before the system wouldn't start. The message appeared: "please turn off power and connect PCI-E psu cables." I removed the card, cleaned with compressed air, and tried everything but nothing worked. Spent a week troubleshooting without success. Only after replacing the card did it function again. TL;DR: If you see this thread, your card is likely dead.
Since last sarturday when I changed my case and PSU my GTX 1060 started having the same issue as yours, today I decided to take a closer look, in special around the PCIE power connector and... This part of the card is normally covered by the fans 'casing', this wasn't caused by physical "trauma", this likely happened when I plugged the new PSU and turned it on... I attemped to unbend this dangly bit to solder it but the other leg broke, so I just soldered the two terminals together (and the other two that where nearby as well lol), the card now recognizes power and seems to be working like it used to, I can now wait for GPU prices to drop even lower before making an informed decision when buying...
