Steve from Gamers Nexus recently tested Nvidia's new RTX 4070-Super. In the tests he found GTA V still works well on modern graphics cards. He thinks that since GTA V remains challenging, GTA VI is likely to be similarly tough. Given how demanding GTA V still is, he wonders what the frame rates might be in GTA VI. He imagines even his high-end card struggling to hit triple-digit frames at 3440x1440p with both High and Ultra settings.

GTA5 performed very efficiently upon its launch, even for a console version. I don’t believe that’s the case.

You'd think a game from nearly ten years ago would still perform smoothly on a modern GPU, especially with higher resolutions—but the 4070-Super only hits around 130 FPS at 1080p. It really highlights just how challenging GTA can be. It feels similar to Red Redemption 2 in that regard.

Over the past sixteen years, a lot has shifted. Examining GTA5 source code reveals a VS 2008 fix file included. Calculate the facts. A game ten years old doesn’t suddenly transform overnight.

It requires significant effort in some conditions, but is straightforward under others. No big deal. Are we still debating a title that won't be released for years? Let's just wait and observe.

The displayed benchmarks are for the maximum 4K resolution at 50-60 FPS on an RTX 3060. What are your specific requirements?

It depends on adjusting the size. GTA V performs well at both small and large scales, which explains its smooth operation on my old Xbox 360 and good performance when settings are increased with a high-end configuration. Many visual elements can be modified to suit different preferences.

They also displayed 1440p and 1080p resolutions. What stands out is that GTA VI is likely to be very demanding.

From what I observe, benchmarks for GTA 5 mostly feature 4K resolutions. However, your argument about GTA 6 being very demanding seems a bit off, since we've already confirmed GTA 5 is tough. You're right to point that out—just because GTA 5 struggles doesn't mean GTA 6 will be easy. Still, considering Rockstar's current efforts and quality, it's likely they're optimizing more than ever.
