My PC features a Ryzen 5 3400g, 8GB RAM at 3000MHz, and a Vega 11 graphics card.
I've noticed numerous gameplay test videos using 3400g, but I'm feeling let down.
FPS counts on 1080p:
GTA V – 30fps at low settings.
Watch Dogs 1 – 24fps at low settings.
NFS Payback – 20fps at low settings.
Is this an issue or not?
From one perspective, if the page file were the issue, you'd experience stutters after some time (once RAM is full) while the system rearranges data.
On the other hand, with only a single stick of RAM, the GPU requires maximum bandwidth; using two sticks in dual-channel mode can boost performance, though results won't be dramatic.
Reviewed various benchmarks online, including YouTube and review sites, as you mentioned. If the outcomes match what others found, it’s likely a reasonable expectation.
The 3400G consumes some RAM. With a total of 8GB, after accounting for the operating system and all applications plus shared memory, there remains approximately 8GB. If no RAM is available, the pagefile will be utilized, which negatively impacts performance.
From one perspective, if the page file were large enough, you'd experience stutters after some time (once RAM is full) while the system rearranges data. On the other hand, with only a single stick of RAM, the GPU requires maximum bandwidth, and using two sticks in dual-channel mode can boost performance—though expect only improvements, not miracles.
For an APU it's advised to use more than 8GB of RAM. Compare the 3400G with one 8GB stick versus two 8GB sticks in Dual Channel instead of Single Channel. Check the details here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BarUHINHO_4
