So I assembled this PC myself over the past year. I have an i5 8600K (overclocked to 5ghz) on an ASUS Prime Z370-A, 16GB of 3200DDR4 GSkill RAM, an EVGA 1080Ti FTW3, and a Crucial MX500 M.2 SSD for the boot drive and game drive. My monitor is a Dell S2716DG 1440p G-SYNC display. When trying to play GTA V, it isn’t performing as expected. I use GeForce Experience with optimal settings, launch the game, and run benchmarks. My FPS is around 20-40, which is significantly lower than what I anticipated... what could be wrong?

Was das Kabel für den Monitor an die Grafikkarte und nicht an die Mainboard angeschlossen? Wenn es an die Mainboard angeschlossen ist, funktioniert die integrierte Grafik des i5 8600K und nicht die 1080Ti.

The system is operating with optimal configurations. It achieves over 150 FPS at 1440p under normal conditions, with DX11 and an i7 8700K processor running at 4.8GHz, using a GTX 970 at 200Mhz. At high speeds, performance remains strong at 70+ FPS. It's likely GeForce Experience is employing DSR to render the game at resolutions above 1440p, though further details are needed.

Hey, it's a fair question but I'm not that new :p I'm definitely using the 1080Ti.

The ideal configuration was essentially maximum everything, ultra settings, very high levels. I spotted the DSR spot and am 95% confident it wasn’t turned on. I’m currently at work and can’t share precise information yet, but I’ll update once I’m back home.

verify gpu and cpu temperatures and usage, then, might provide a hint about the reason for the low fps.

The CPU usage stayed around half capacity, and the GPU remained under 20% utilization.

Is the VSync feature active? I noticed it was on while I was at 40% CPU and 35% GPU, but once I turned it off, performance improved significantly—CPU reached 70 and GPU up to 99, achieving 80-90fps.

Tried that, no difference.  The benchmark starts out at around 22-23FPS... my system should be crushing that.

Have you looked into your Nvidia control panel configurations? Look for options like Power management mode being set to Prefer maximum performance, particularly within the Program Settings for GTA5.exe since your problem seems to be related to that game, and verify if your 1080 Ti is configured with the PhysX processor setting.

Additionally, try a small test while playing at low FPS: press Alt+Tab to switch to the desktop, then release to return to the game and observe if your FPS stabilizes. Repeat this 2-3 times, allowing about 15-20 seconds between each attempt. Also experiment with Alt+Enter to enter windowed mode, then switch back to fullscreen through the settings and check the impact on your FPS.
