GTA V compatible graphics card with high performance.
Hey everyone, do you know anyone who has a different CPU than mine (FX 8350) that can check GTA V performance on Radeon HD 6990 or the 2x6970/6950? I’m curious if my slowdown is due to the processor. Usually the GPU usage stays around 60%, but sometimes it drops to 60% or less and I get low frame rates. In some areas I see over 90% usage. Someone with an i5 or i7 would appreciate seeing FPS numbers.
It seems there may be limited assistance available for the game.
I don’t have access to those GPUs, so I can’t run tests or check performance directly. However, if you struggle with frame rates, it might point to a CPU issue rather than the graphics card. The 6990 should handle mid-range games well, while AMD processors are generally less suited for gaming compared to Intel’s stronger single-core design.
The CPU is slowing things down slightly, but not too much. GTA V runs smoothly on FX processors. An i5 or i7 would help a bit more, though it wouldn’t make a huge difference. Your issue seems tied to crossfire scaling in the game, which isn’t ideal for benchmark results. That’s not typical—games aren’t built to handle many cores well. As I mentioned earlier, GTA V makes good use of the cores, and FX CPUs perform comparably to Intel options (for their cost).
You might be misunderstanding the comparison. Intel's singlecore performance often outperforms AMD's multiple cores, even though AMD has more units. The idea that games aren't built for many cores is what makes Intel competitive in gaming.
I understand your perspective. The FX 8350 performs similarly to a 2nd generation i5 CPU in single-core tasks, which shouldn't be surprising. It seems reasonable that it wouldn't be significantly worse. I think the review should be clearer. I’m considering getting an AMD setup for future game streaming and also need to switch tabs frequently, requiring many applications to run simultaneously. Additionally, I purchased the motherboard and CPU together at a low price around 150 dollars a year ago.
