I recently installed my latest setup last week. It features an i7 4790k and a GTX 780 with 16GB RAM. My girlfriend loves GTA V a lot, so I planned to wait until after upgrading the stock CPU cooler. I was curious about expected temperatures. The most demanding game I play at is Chivalry; during Ultra it can reach up to 79°C, but usually stays around the high 60s to low 70s. My rig uses the Corsair 750D with its default case fan, and I’ll add more fans from my old case soon. Should I wait or proceed with purchasing the game?

This would not be a good idea. The processor will limit performance.

The stock cooler handles the CPU under any workload using standard clock speeds and voltages. As long as it isn’t overclocked, problems should avoid.

Reduce the speed, you'll need to.

The stock cooler is designed to function with the CPU included in its original setup, and it should operate smoothly under normal conditions. With a well-cooled case, performance should remain stable. However, we cannot provide exact temperature readings—only you can monitor them during gameplay. Many factors influence stability, such as room temperature, cable organization, fan operation, and GPU cooling. If you're ready to play now, you can do so without fear of damaging your CPU.

I play GTAV with a 4770k that I haven't overclocked yet. If you're not doing it, the stock cooler is okay. I own a 980ti now, but my old card was a 780 too—feel free to go ahead and buy the game.

Consider upgrading your CPU cooling system. Overclocking might be necessary for GTA 5, but a standard setup should suffice otherwise.

I intend to purchase a fresh cooler, as the cost of building one last week exceeded my budget of $700.
