Hey, I'm trying to play Witcher 3 in ultra settings with smooth 25-40 frames. On GTA 5, I get 1-150 frames and it works fine in a car or underfire. I'm using DirectX 11 and 10.1/10, tried lower resolutions and other fixes online, but nothing helps. My setup is GTX 960, 2GB RAM, 8GB memory. Need some advice.

Check for additional processes running quietly. Setting everything to ultra mode could strain your GPU.

This isn't accurate. My 770 works properly.

The GPU can't handle the game at the maximum configurations, mainly because the 2GB of VRAM isn't sufficient.

I don't claim to be an ultra user, but I've tested all options. I tried Ultra, but I'm using the default settings and no additional software is installed. Avast is definitely running.

By fine means, it's a big deal. I test it on ultra at 40-50 frames per second.

Here are some possible reasons for the lag you're experiencing:
- Possible hardware limitations or insufficient processing power.
- Frame rate inconsistency due to varying input settings or system performance.
- Software glitches or compatibility issues with your setup.
- The game might be running at a lower resolution or frame rate by default.

For the inconsistent frame rate (30fps vs 60fps), it could depend on how you're adjusting settings in Fraps or the game itself.

Avoid using the full 2GB of available RAM you have.
