Hello!
I’m writing this for my friend because I often talk to him. He usually plays GTA 5 and FiveM with great FPS, but lately he’s been having poor frame rates and severe lag. It’s odd since his system looks powerful—GTX 1060, 6GB RAM, i7-8700K with good cooling, and 8GB DDR4 at 2666MHz. He’s set all his options to maximum, and his performance stayed solid for a few days before dropping below 70 FPS.

At first I thought it might be related to his RAM, but checking the RAM shows it can’t be the issue. We’ve tried disabling Steam Overlay and GeForce Experience, checked if his GPU is throttling due to heat, and confirmed the CPU temperature stays well below 60°C.

Interestingly, his CPU usage was only around 11%, which is unusual since it’s been running at full capacity and never that low before. If you know how to resolve this or have faced similar problems, please share your solution.

It varies based on the servers he plays on, since each one comes with different mods. I own a GTX 1080Ti with 16GB RAM and an R5 1600 clocked at 3.8GHz, which often causes stuttering.

But the thing is that you and your friends play on the same server with less powerful hardware than him, and you feel almost no lag. Thanks for your answer!

I resolved this problem by adding an 8GB RAM stick, bringing the total to 16GB. It's been smooth ever since. You might want to adjust some graphics settings, like lowering MSAA to 2x or 4x. This won't eliminate stuttering completely but should improve performance and stability (higher FPS). More RAM will definitely help with stuttering too. It really works like a magic solution.

Ok! The thing is though that he earlier has been able to run at same graphics with no stuttering or bad fps and now it has suddenley changed from out of nowhere.
Should he maybe try overclocking his dram?
thanks for your answer!

Very typical. It functions briefly and gradually the stuttering becomes noticeable.
This should only improve performance (higher or more stable FPS), not eliminate stuttering. It’s advisable to proceed only if your motherboard supports it and you’re confident with the adjustments. Adjusting a few graphics parameters is simpler and more effective, especially by reducing the appropriate ones. Extreme settings like Ultra are rarely ideal. Custom graphic configurations outperform Ultra all day for maximizing FPS without sacrificing quality. As I mentioned, simply lower the right settings. Make sure to disable every advanced graphic option, particularly extended distance scaling. These options offer little visual impact and should always be turned down, even with top hardware. Set distance scaling (not extended) around 40%.
If you want the optimal custom graphics configuration, let me know. I’ve perfected it for a game that looks like Ultra but runs at peak FPS.

Welcome. It's my pleasure to help.
You can adjust the distance scaling between 40% to 60%, depending on what suits you best. The change in frames per second isn't negligible, and going lower will yield higher FPS. However, avoid going too low, as it may cause pop-ins—sudden pops appearing unexpectedly while driving.
Keep in mind these settings are optimized. Modifying them can significantly impact performance or visual quality. If you have any questions about any of them, feel free to ask. I've conducted thorough research on GTA 5 graphics settings and related topics. The adjustments affect everything from appearance to frame rate, and I'm happy to explain further.

I was looking for optimal configurations with around 45fps. With my GTX1080ti gaming on an 11GB card, an i7-8700k, 32GB DDR4, and a 2560x1440 monitor, I tried the settings and am currently at 170 fps—your hero!
