G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z Royal 2x8GB RAM at 4800Mhz
Hey everyone, I came across this memory a while back. I’m curious about achieving those high speeds with an Intel CPU and ensuring stability. What brands of motherboards perform best for this? Should I be able to downclock the RAM from 4800MHz to around 4600MHz if needed? Looking forward to your thoughts!
Intel CPUs typically feature excellent IC manufacturing, suggesting these chips are likely of high quality or even die-level production. There should be no issues expected.
these asus "apex" boards work well at high frequencies, though reaching 4000mhz with intel or amd is unlikely to be stable.
I’m planning to purchase an i9 10900K soon and am still deciding on the motherboard. I’ve heard the Asus Z490 ROG MAXIMUS XII HERO (WI-FI) and MSI ACE MEG are solid options, but I’m not sure which fits best. I need a board that can support high-speed RAM, and my budget is roughly $450 to $600. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
The Hero will also function well. It matches the top tier of its board, offering strong overclocking capabilities for both CPU and RAM. Nearly every high-end Z490 board is quite robust for overclocking, which is especially useful for the 10900K due to its high current draw. Be aware that reaching 4800MHz isn't assured, even with the Apex, as it remains a challenging target.
I just spotted the Apex Z490 in stock and did some digging myself. It looks like this motherboard is perfect for memory overclocking, so I’m leaning toward the Maximus Apex Z490. Thanks for the advice! Although 4800mhz might seem a bit high, I’m hoping 4600mhz will work with it. PS—appreciate the help!
