You're facing a mix of advice from different sources about the CL write setting for your DDR5 kit. It seems some recommend 8 or 10, while others suggest 46. Checking how other users with similar high-end kits handled it might give you clearer guidance.

Working with top-speed DDR5 boards can be quite challenging. These kits are mainly aimed at advanced users testing frequency limits, not everyday builders. They’re not built for standard CPUs or boards, which is why they often lack proper XMP support. The validation data suggests only a few specialized motherboards handled them successfully. There’s some confusion about the specs—terms like tRCDW and tRAS refer to different timing parameters, with some kits needing specific settings for stability.

It's really too late to send them back. However, the good news is they're installed in a z790 Apex. For the main clock settings, there were originally four options before the 12700k + DDR4 update, and now there are five. I'm not sure what you meant by that.

According to the official spec, it functions identically to a standard tRCD. It typically operates with an 8-cycle range, which is the setting I've used across all my configurations.

Checking the Intel side, yes—most folks use it at 10, while AMD allows 8 in some configurations.

Intel confirms the register settles at 8. The boards I've used can configure it to 8 without problems, even under demanding memory configurations.

I'm currently at level 10 during stress testing with Karhu. The value is 8000, and the only adjustment I've made is that one. If it succeeds, I plan to either add another 200 MHz or trim timings using the updated timing at 8.
