I strongly dislike Windows 8 and 10, and I won’t upgrade my devices to them. The amount of unnecessary software and data gathering they bring is too much, especially since they’re built around touchscreens which I find annoying on non-tablet devices. With their end-of-life approaching, how will you handle this situation? Personally, I’m disconnecting my main PC from the internet and using a Manjaro-based laptop for all online tasks. I’ll only download files via USB transfers. Plus, I’ve been moving my workflows to Mac for several years now, so everything should be set up once I get a new machine—like a high-end Cheese Grater for those Skyrim dragons and advanced video editing needs.
Some individuals find Windows 7 less appealing compared to newer versions, while they consider modern Linux distributions superior. The preference often stems from performance, updates, and overall user experience.
You can obtain a modified version of Windows 10 from several sites that strips away all the extras and leaves a minimal setup. If you're opposed to its features, or if most users prefer, you can install Windows 10 and then adjust or disable it to remove those problems.
You probably rely on a mobile device, right? What do you think about the information your government has about you?
Windows 7 stands out as the top choice for me. I appreciate Manjaro and its ongoing support, especially for gaming. While I’m ready to fully switch to it once EoL arrives, I still plan to maintain my Windows 7 setup for playing Steam single-player games. I’ll keep the older Mac Pros I bought on a used Honda Civic until they become available, just because I really want one.
