On mini-ITX mobos, adding RAM normally works, but after installation it can fold down or act like extended M.2 slots. Would this be possible? Is there existing support for such a feature? Can I customize a mobo to enable it? Updated August 2, 2020 by Johnny-Boi (spelling error).

You're looking for a way to connect mini ITX boards to SODIMM slots, similar to what you'd find in a laptop.

They would save room by folding down, using less height for the same size, making more space available for other components.

When space is limited, opting for SODIMMs with horizontal mounts works better, similar to laptop designs.

She noted this before, but generally the issue lies with the CPU cooler's height unless you use a laptop-style cooling setup. Also, if standard RAM isn't enough, it might cause space problems.

You can locate suitable ITX boards with SODIMM slots by searching online for "thin mini itx motherboard."

In ITX setups, placing the DIMMS sideways on the backboard seems logical.
