I understand being outnumbered, but I’m really bothered by the idea of lowering graphics settings just to boost performance—it feels like a compromise on quality.

It varies based on the game. For competitive multiplayer titles like Battlefield, 45 fps or higher is ideal. For games such as Skyrim, 30 fps works just fine.

Minimum 60 FPS required without exceptions. Above that, performance varies by game. For competitive shooters, I might lower to 1080 medium for smoother 120/144 FPS. For non-competitive games, I'll stick at 60 FPS with higher settings or resolution.

TotalBiscuit struggled with the dual 980s, making it hard to run smoothly. It mainly came down to poor optimization. The game didn’t look very impressive and had many glitches. Right now I’m playing older titles and they’re way more enjoyable.

It really varies by game. For me, some titles require 60 fps to run smoothly, while others perform well regardless of frame rate. On my typical mid-range system, I tend to see reduced performance when lowering the settings, which is similar to what you'd notice on a console.

I don’t like low frame rates below 55 unless they stay steady. I can work with 30 frames per second consistently in a few games, but any swing from 60 to 30 is too much and makes it hard to play.

I boost the quality of my games until they surpass the needed frame rate, but there are unique cases. Otherwise, I have to stop entirely for me to consider 30 FPS or poor graphics acceptable.

I'm not alone in this. I tried Watch Dogs, but it wasn't smooth enough. ;_

Oh ya, I agree. It appears Ubisoft games are pretty shit on PC and optimized poorly. I just thought I would share that article, but yes I'm not surprised to hear that dual 980s still have issues lmao. Far Cry 4 plays terribly for me on my GTX970. I'm building my new rig now (specs in sig) I'm hoping my update will improve my gaming but Ubisoft games might be doomed to always be shit until they optimize better.
