Hello. I recently updated my computer’s hardware, and it performs games exceptionally well – except for GTA V. It runs smoothly in the single-player mode, averaging around 90 frames per second, but drops to approximately 50-60 fps when playing online. This is somewhat acceptable in less congested areas of the game, but it’s still not ideal.
Here are my system specifications for your reference:
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 at 3.0GHz (I haven’t yet attempted to overclock)
MSI Armor GTX 1070
MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon
12GB Corsair DDR4 (two 4GB sticks at 3000mhz and one 4GB stick at 2400mhz) – I've tested running all three sticks at 2133 and 2400 with no noticeable impact.
EVGA 650w GQ 80+ Gold PSU
Asus Xonar Phoebus sound card
Sandisk 240GB SSD
WD 1TB HDD
Toshiba 1TB HDD
Corsair H100x AIO cooler
Acer 144Hz monitor
Prior to using the Ryzen, I was utilizing an i5-7600k (with identical components aside) which was overclocked to 4.7GHz and handled the game similarly to the Ryzen in single-player mode – a performance level I was not anticipating significantly improving. However, my frame rates remained relatively consistent whether I was playing in single-player or multiplayer mode.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer.
Likely, this happens because GTA Online requires significant system resources due to its intensive features. These include anti-cheat measures, a large number of players and vehicles, frequent in-game events, and extensive messaging.
Likely, this could be due to GTA Online’s intensive system requirements. Features like anti-cheat measures, a large number of players and vehicles, frequent in-game events, and invitations all contribute to high demand. I initially suspected the same thing, but I haven’t experienced such a significant performance drop while utilizing an i5 processor. A 50 frames per second reduction solely from switching to online is excessively high, far exceeding what one would anticipate.
