gpuHorrible FPS
Hey everyone, welcome! I’m facing an issue with low FPS on my PC.
I have a PC with a Ryzen 5 1600, 2x8 DDR4 RAM, a 250s SSD, and a 500GB hard drive.
It’s running an ASRock AB350 Pro4, RTX 2060, 750W power supply.
My FPS is consistently poor—after reinstalling drivers via DDU, it briefly hit over 100 for some games before dropping back to 15–35.
I’ve tried using a GTX 1660 Ti and had good performance for a full day, but now it’s under 35 again.
I’m new to PC gaming and built my own system. It worked well for a year with a GTX 1050 Ti, but everything changed after installing the RTX 2060.
Any advice or help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
How quickly does your memory respond?
Monitor the temperatures and usage during playback to detect any unusual behavior.
Are there any background processes affecting performance?
This case appears to relate to a thermal problem, though background applications could also be involved. For future reference, consider adding this to troubleshooting, but don’t worry.
The issue could relate to temperatures, even if your CPU and GPU temperatures appear normal; other components like VRMs and memory might be overheating. Ensure nothing in the PC is overheating. If the problem persists, consider downcloning parts of your system—recommend starting with RAM, then GPU, followed by CPU—to address potential degradation and voltage requirements at higher speeds.
Ram is ddr4 2666. I’ve stopped all background processes that didn’t perform much, and I don’t think overheating is the issue—temperatures and fan speed seem normal. The odd pattern is that games run at over 80 FPS then drop below 30, and after reinstalling drivers it recovers to stable performance. I’m checking CPU, GPU temperatures and usage. I have an 1660ti and noticed similar behavior to the RTX 2060, so I suspect a GPU problem. I always use ddu every time I delete and reinstall drivers.
