GPU Voltage Peak With Kombustor :(
GPU Voltage Peak With Kombustor :(
Hi,
I recently overclocked my new Sapphire Rx580 Nitro+ SE using TRIXX software, which increased the voltage to max +200mW and raised the power limit by 50%. After testing MSI Kombustor, I observed a peak core voltage of 1.5V (average about 1.35V higher). Is this normal? Or could it indicate a problem? I'm concerned about my VGA.
Thanks

If it exceeded the limits, the graphics card wouldn't accept it. The exact maximum core voltage isn't specified. However, you can try testing it yourself using a stress test. Any overclocking carries some risk of harming the graphics card. My own graphics card has been overclocked with a 10% power target. That's my recommendation.
The average core voltage is 1.35 V plus 0.200 V, which equals 1.55 V. If you don't wish for that level, reset the overclock and restart.

Hi Terry,
yes i've already restored the voltage and the clocks, my question is, 1.5/1.55v is too high for an RX580? I don't want to set it so high 24/7, I was only worried about this peak that the vga has received.
🙁
The limits for core voltage will be hard coded for the specific graphics card. If the stress test passes with a reasonable temperature, then it is OK. If it crashes, then lower it.
Confirmed, I haven't harmed the VGA at that voltage peak of 1.55v. It's safe. From now on, I'll stick to 1.20/1.25v.
If it exceeded the boundaries, the graphics card wouldn't recognize it. The exact maximum core voltage isn't specified. However, you can try a stress test yourself to check. Any attempt at overclocking carries a risk of harming the graphics card. My own graphics card has been overclocked with a 10% power target. That's my recommendation.
