Hi everyone, I splurged on a 6900 XT and experienced two odd shutdowns while under load. The system powers off and I have to switch the PSU to restart. Otherwise, the case power button stops working completely. It seems like OCP is tripping. I only have one PCIe power cable for the GPU’s two 8-pin connectors. The PSU is rated at 1000W and set to multi-rail. Is this causing overcurrent that leads to shutdown? No second cable available. Everything else appears fine. Thanks! Specs: ASUS X570 Prime Pro Ryzen 3600, 32GB RAM, Windows 11, Corsair RM1000i.

You require an additional cable. Your response fully addressed the query, but you must not use only one 8-pin connector for that GPU model.

I don’t even power my 3070 OC with more than a single cable, not even with a powerful PSU, and there’s no good reason to use just one when you have a 6900 XT.

Rush placed an extra cable. It’s been a while since I was that young, so it should be okay. Is this filling up the 12V space too much? Could it be causing an issue with the OCP?

In short, yes—using two cables improves the GPU's power supply.

That's correct. Your 6900xt might have been struggling a lot too.

So here’s a stupid question: why do they still make p c ie cables with two 8pins? To confuse old farts like me?

I don’t understand anything. It sounds like even the best GPUs from 3050 would need two separate pins now.
