Hey there, friends. I’ve been putting in some time just to finish this post. Lately I switched from a 3700x to a 5950x, but performance in OBS Studio has actually gotten worse. I’m also seeing erratic GPU activity that jumps around whenever I launch different programs. I’ve tried almost everything. Here’s what my setup looks like: CPU – Ryzen 9 5950x; GPU – NVidia 3070; Motherboard – ASRock B450M/ac R2; RAM – 32GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3600MHz; AIO – CyberPowerPC (CoolerMaster); I’m using three monitors. Heat levels are fine, and even under heavy use the CPU only hits around 82% for a brief moment. The GPU stays steady between 55-56. Over the past ten years of monitoring, I’ve noticed something strange: my GPU spikes to 100% when launching apps or when nothing is running. It looks like Discord, File Explorer, the Desktop Window Manager, and Chrome are all causing this. The pattern keeps changing, and so far I haven’t found a clear cause. I think these sudden jumps are what’s crashing my stream. On my older 3700x I could stream 1080p at 60FPS without any trouble. Now even holding a stream for five minutes is tough—my GPU hits 92% and the stream freezes with “overloaded encoder” messages. I use NVENC, but I still face micro stutters and skipped frames in games and during streaming. These problems didn’t appear on my previous CPU. Temperatures stay normal. The strain is almost entirely on the GPU. My game performance actually gets better when OBS isn’t running. When I open it, I can sit back and watch it spike to 92% without streaming or opening any games. I’ve also tried Streamlabs; they’ve had similar issues. I’ve stripped down scenes and sources, but removing just browser clips helped a bit—still unsure what’s going on. Benchmarks show everything is stable, no thermal throttling. Tools like Cinebench, Heaven, and Boundary are working fine. When OBS is active, I lose 60-80% of frames without going live. This never happened on my slower CPU. The only thing that bothers me is whether my MOBA settings don’t match the CPU’s voltage requirements. Sure, it works, but under heavy load it seems to struggle. I’ve applied thermal paste, ensured the AIO is properly seated, checked my BIOS, updated drivers, and set RAM to 3600MHz with XMP enabled. All temps are normal. Fans spin nonstop, room stays cool thanks to good airflow. Power settings are maxed out, Game mode off. I think everything’s fine except for the GPU under stress. I’m not convinced yet. If you could share a log file or more details, it would really help. Thanks for your time!

Check for GPU driver updates if possible.

I attempted it again. I switched the driver and went back to an earlier release, but it didn’t resolve the issue.

Checking the new CPU, the 5950X with the 3070 usually works well at higher resolutions. What resolution are you currently using?

Your board was launched two years back, not ten. Since you didn’t mention a power supply, what kind of power source are you using?

The ten-year section was just a joke, haha. The PSU is Apevia 800W Gold with 80 Plus efficiency.

Unfortunately this is a prebuilt so I don't have the exact model, but I assume it is this according to the components list I got from the manufacturer:

The 3070 supports 1440p resolution, and you're likely using higher settings than standard.
