Hey there, I just wrapped up setting up my new PC using this spec list: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kapteij...iew=dnXGjX. I started one of my favorite games, RDR2, and ran a bunch of benchmarks with these settings. But I’m seeing around 30-40 FPS lower than expected. I’ve turned on PBO and EXPO, and I undervolted the GPU to +1600MHZ via MSI Afterburner. When I checked the GPU and CPU usage through Afterburner, the GPU stayed under 94% utilization, and the CPU didn’t show any odd spikes. Anyone have a tip? Thanks!

Restore CPU and GPU to default settings and retry. Avoid overclocking or undervolting unless cooling or power concerns arise. Remember, results vary per system. YouTube scores won’t match your actual performance, as component versions and game updates differ. Monitor resolution and refresh rate also impact outcomes. If your GPU is at 94% or higher, it’s operating within typical ranges.

Revert undervolts and overclocks. Retain XMP/EXPO and basic PBO. Verify identical settings, resolution. Ensure chipset and GPU drivers are current.

"Basic PBO" refers to a standard BIOS setting that applies default performance parameters. It means no special curve adjustments were made during installation. Regarding the CPU overclock, enabling it in the MSI BIOS near the EXPO/A-XPO option depends on your system's needs and stability; check compatibility first.

Attempting the task, I’ll provide updated information. The issue might stem from resource constraints or configuration problems. Let me investigate further.

In most games you won’t see your GPU reach full capacity all the time. It’s not unusual for it to stay below 100%. Usage over 93% is typical and perfectly acceptable. Each game behaves differently, influenced by resolution, settings, and technology. Running a single test isn’t enough to catch problems; thorough evaluation is necessary. It looks like you reviewed several benchmarks for one title and noticed variations in performance.

No single response can be provided without evaluation. Testing is essential before assuming anything. It’s unclear what’s happening, so a thorough check is necessary. You might have VSync enabled or a frame cap in place. I consider several factors when diagnosing performance issues. I collect information from multiple games, including a modern, GPU-heavy title to reduce CPU impact. I look for per-game or overall VSync settings and framerate limits. Make sure your drivers are current and no third-party tools are interfering—Afterburner can be problematic for new users. I monitor data live with Intel PresentMon to track frame time and GPU usage. There’s still more I’m unsure about right now. With a 4080 Super at 1440p, actual usage might vary depending on the game. In RDR2, it’s advisable if you’ve adjusted settings significantly. But this is just one test among many.

Basic PBO is essentially the default speed of your kit. It’s the standard profile you get with the package, not additional settings beyond what the manufacturer recommends. PBO provides a precision boost, letting your CPU run at higher voltages and achieve faster speeds without needing manual overclocks. I’d skip enabling PBO and resist overclocking until you’ve confirmed everything works at stock levels. There’s no benefit in adjusting clocks or voltages unless you’re certain about stability. Generally, people avoid tweaking clocks or voltages unless it’s truly required.

I believe you're mixing up XMP/EXPO with PBO.

Check the GPU usage through system monitoring tools or performance metrics, ensuring it's not hidden by background processes.
