GPU performance drops during Minecraft gameplay due to limited clock speed.
I recently upgraded my GPU to an RX 5700, but it’s been stuck in idle mode during Minecraft sessions. The reduced clock speed is limiting performance to 30–60 FPS on a system with much higher capabilities. My setup includes a Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB Corsair Dominator 3200MHz, and the RX 5700 MSI Gaming Plus MoBo. I’ve searched online but found few recent discussions, even newer threads seem to focus on Nvidia GPUs. Thanks in advance!
The setup was on my dedicated GPU, and in that case it wouldn’t work.
Minecraft requires a specific GPU for optimal performance. Your 3700X lacks an integrated GPU, which might seem like the problem. Could there have been an unintentional adjustment to FPS settings or V-Sync enabled?
You’ve set aside 5GB of memory, but it’s consuming between 1GB and 3GB. Additionally, boosting RAM in your Optifine setup has led to a drop in FPS.
In Task Manager while playing Minecraft, you can check CPU usage, memory consumption, GPU performance, and disk activity. It helps monitor resource allocation during gameplay. A screenshot would show the real-time metrics for these components.
Your performance appears low despite moderate usage, which may explain the slower clock speed.
