GPU performance changes + lag at 60 frames per second
I recently purchased an AMD RX580 4GB model, and although it functions properly, I’m experiencing some performance issues. For instance, when playing Battlefield 1, the game reports a steady 60FPS but frequently drops to around 58FPS for brief moments, sometimes reaching as low as 30FPS during movement or turns. Using afterburner revealed erratic changes in GPU and CPU usage, often jumping from near zero to full capacity repeatedly. Could this instability be connected to the stuttering? If so, understanding its impact and possible solutions would be helpful.
Which processor is being used? It appears to reach maximum usage frequently, possibly leading to stuttering.
I don't have personal hardware, but I can tell you about typical RAM usage during gaming. Most games run efficiently on 8GB to 16GB of RAM, with higher-end titles possibly needing more. Usage varies based on game complexity and graphics settings.
I own a 16GB RAM setup with Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz 16GB (two 8GB modules). Current usage is about 6500MB-7000MB. Previously had 8GB, upgraded to 16GB but the problem persists.
Consider reducing your GPU's clock speed slightly, perhaps to around 1100 MHz, and check for any lingering stuttering.
Reset the device and ensure it powers on securely. If it still fails, proceed with the return for replacement.
I'll attempt that later when I'm back home. On a related point, it appears others experience similar problems, but replies suggest this behavior is typical for certain cards—especially AMD models like the R9 390. This makes me a bit puzzled about whether this directly causes the stuttering. If I had to return the card, I'd need to explain the specific issue or defect that prompted the return.
