Can an excessively high memory overclock reduce benchmark scores despite no visible issues?

Certainly.
the adjustment amount depends on detecting artifacts.
at 9500mhz the memory clock occasionally displays artifacts.
in contrast, at 9460 there are none.

Run it where it performs optimally. Each software version will behave differently. In Timespy, you could achieve 9800, in Heaven you might reach 9700, and in Firestrike only 9400...all your games will respond to memory clock settings uniquely.

Also remember, higher memory clocks increase power consumption from your GPU. Overclocking the GPU core can become unstable if there isn’t enough power. You’ll need to determine what works best for your specific GPU and the overclocking goals you have.
