GPU operation across various bus connections
Reposting since my last thread didn't get much traction, but tl:dr - GPU is running at multiple different bus interfaces for seemingly no reason? I've seen 4 different bus interfaces and the only way to change the bus interface is by restarting/shutting down the PC Here's the 4 combinations I've seen: 16x 3.0 1x 4.0 2x 4.0 16x 1.1 16x 4.0 (which should be the normal one) I don't believe this is GPU-Z being wrong, because whenever it does run at lower bus interfaces I do notice really big FPS drops and microstutters. I have tried reseating and cleaning the golden pins on the GPU multiple times, but to no avail. Also checked for bent pins in the CPU socket, but everything looks normal there too. Don't really know how to fix this and not sure which component to RMA if there is no fix to this. Edit: clicking the "?" to open up the graphic also doesn't change the bus interface.
For power efficiency, the system first displays the physical link speed, then adjusts the current operating speed accordingly. For example, if your last screenshot shows a Gen 4 x16 connection but you're not using it much, it reduces to a Gen 1.1 x16 speed. Pushing the GPU will cause the bus speed to hit its maximum limit.
I've checked the bus speed whilst I'm ingame and it'll still be sitting at x2 or x1 even after hitting the refresh button at the top. Unless I'm misunderstanding how GPU-Z works
Uhhh what? How? So much confusion. But why? You're at home using normal electricity for everyday use. If you're not using for hours just turn off your pc or is people incapable to do that. For slow hardware I'd get it but computers boots up in seconds with decent hardware with ssd ofc. I bet this will cause some issues to some users.
Would it be better to keep the program set to x16 instead of updating when the bus speed improves? For instance, if you're playing a game and GPU-Z continues to display an outdated speed even after the bus speed has increased, that could affect performance.
I've observed significant fluctuations in FPS which often leads me to examine GPU-Z and temperatures for both the GPU and CPU. Temperatures remain consistently low, yet the bus speed appears to be the issue. My FPS stays stable most of the time, but whenever it drops by 90-150 FPS compared to my normal rate, I become a bit puzzled.
I used my previous 1080 model and it kept running at x16 even after nine restarts. It seems the GPU might be faulty. I also changed its setting from silent mode to gaming mode, in case that fixes the issue.
