GPU issues during gameplay reported. Assistance needed.
A brand new PC is experiencing black screen issues after playing Destiny 2. Recently, I installed a fresh machine (details below). During the initial startup, I aimed to test Destiny 2 and enjoyed smooth performance at 144fps. However, over the past week, the game has randomly crashed, sometimes even at first load. Despite troubleshooting every Reddit and YouTube guide, the problem persists. My system functions normally elsewhere, but Destiny keeps failing. I’ve noted several problems below, including specifications and the error code that appears when it crashes.
Issue: Destiny 2 black screen after 1–20 minutes of play, returning to Windows Home. Shows error code "Broccoli" (GPU-related in-game). Restart needed to launch the game again. Before crashing, the game runs choppy with frequent screen tearing. The PC remains operational afterward, no MB debug lights flash, and most desktop applications work after the crash.
Observations: No spikes in GPU or CPU temperatures during crashes. High scores appear unaffected by 3DMark or Heaven. Other games run fine, VRAM stays around 1000 MHz even idle, GPU usage peaks at 75–85% during intense sections.
Changes I’ve made: RAM XMP enabled, CPU voltage set to max 85W, tested GPU clock at 3000MHz, lowered to 1050mV, increased power limit to 15%.
Tried fixes that didn’t help:
1. Adjusted resolution settings via CRU to lower idle VRAM MHz.
2. Disabled and completely removed the Xbox game bar.
3. Reset GPU overclock to factory settings.
4. Updated DDU graphics drivers.
5. Restored older, more stable drivers for the 7x00 series AMD cards.
6. Ran a Windows memory test just to rule out RAM issues.
7. Set power plan to high performance with Destiny 2 prioritized for graphics.
8. Updated chipset and BIOS.
9. Verified game files through Steam.
10. Turned off full screen optimization (improved overall fluidity).
Error Code: Display driver amduw23g stopped responding and has recovered. This is the code I consistently see during crashes. While not 100% certain, it matches what others report on Reddit. I’ve attached a screenshot of this code.
The BIOS on the motherboard updates the system information, while the RAM details refer to the amount and speed.
Recent bios updates? Latest AMD chipset drivers saved? HAGS enabled or disabled? (hardware-assisted GPU scheduling)
MB bios has been updated. The RAM capacity is 2x16GB, that detail was omitted.
Bios: 7D78v1C released last month (MSI). AMD Chipset: downloaded. HAGS: Does not show up under my graphics settings. Should I look into finding a way to enable this?
It's ON by default with the newer drivers. And it's a Windows setting, not in the AMD panel. https://www.howtogeek.com/756935/how-to-...indows-11/
Sure, I understand. The HAGS options aren't listed in the graphics settings page; they're only available when you've selected a high-performance game profile.
GPU-Z displays the current driver version installed on your system.
I used AMD Adrenaline 24.2.1 from the official site, which they claim is the latest version. I saved it after DDU to confirm there were no damaged files during the initial download.
