Hey everyone! I recently changed from a Z490 i9 10850K to a Z790 i7 13700K and everything worked after posting. The BIOS looked good, settings were correct, and it booted into Windows without issues. When I connected directly to the motherboard, it functioned properly. After a reset, the same problem appeared. I tried another GPU, my 2060, but only worked when using the 3080. It seems the 3080 was fine before, but now it's failing on Windows. I’m not sure if swapping platforms can damage a GPU. Anyone have any advice? I’ve also experimented with different PCI slots—Gen 3 and Gen 4 didn’t help. I’m still using my 6700X from another rig until I find the right setup.

Didn't you test the 3080 while the 6700xt was being built?

I’d need to replace the PSU on my primary machine with one from that system, but it lacks sufficient PCIe supplemental power for the 3080. Another NVIDIA and AMD card also functioned, so it looks like the 3080 is the problem. (Main rig uses 850 watts, another uses 550)

Consider using a pigtailed PCIe cable. Based on your description, testing it without any load should work fine.

I’m not sure if it’s a BIOS issue, but I attempted to start the system without extra power and it completely failed to turn on.

Are there any QCode displays or indicator lights on your motherboard that signal a VGA problem at that time? Does your 3080 GPU support multiple BIOS versions? Knowing the exact model of your system will assist in directing the repair process.

The motherboard is an MSI MGP Z790 edge WiFi model, and the 3080 is a gaming X trio from MSI without a dual BIOS switch. I’m currently using my RX 6700 XT and everything works perfectly. Maybe I should send the 3080 to MSI for a check.

the leds on the MOBO didn't show any issues, the card would begin loading into windows and once it reached the login screen it would fully cover the entire display.
