Hi, i'm having a problem with my RX 580 where out of the blue one day i was playing a game and it crashed, black screen and stuff. Restarted the PC and no post, so i had to move it to a 4x slot running at 2.0 speed at full load, couldn't see a thing in the BIOS and in startup the manufacturer's logo wouldn't be displayed. Whenever i try to replace it in the 16x slot it doesn't work. I tried with another GPU and it works just fine and on GPU-Z it was indeed running at 16x. Is my GPU just cooked or is there a way to fix it? I'm gonna upgrade it either way but i wanted to use it for the time being. Things i tried: Updating the motherboard's BIOS with the other GPU to the latest version Updating the GPU BIOS Reseating RAM and CPU Cleaning the GPU's pins The GPU's warranty has expired. I'm guessing there's nothing i can do at this point but it's better to ask

The card functions in the X4 slot but not in the X16 slot. It might work in the X16 slot if you cover the extra pins (like using adhesive tape) to make it a X4 card. It could also fit X8 lanes.

It’s generally not safe to tape a slot. Precision matters—adding just one or two extra pins makes it difficult to maintain proper alignment for an 8x slot.

Apply tape to the card's pins, avoid inserting it into the slot. It’s important to stay accurate. Spoiler

Thanks for sharing the image. I made sure to pin all the pins as shown (the final 33). Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. Maybe I misplaced something, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my fault since I double-checked or at least inspected several lanes before position 8. Appreciate the effort and the new insights!
