Adjusted BIOS options and successfully launched SSD at 2.0x4 speeds, achieving decent read/write performance. However, Wi-Fi connectivity remains unavailable. The issue likely stems from the fact that the third storage slot is only PCIe 2.0, which may limit bandwidth.
Place it in the second slot and run the GPU with 8 lanes. Speed differences are minimal, generally under 5%.
Watch the video for details. It shows a PCIe 3 16/8/4 setup with an RX 6800. The data transfer on the PCIe bus is quite limited. Comparing PCIe 3 vs 4, there’s almost no noticeable difference. On PCIe 3 x8 connections you may experience slight constraints, but it’s minimal.
But I notice a lot of newer GPUs with PCIe 4.0 x8 low-end chips like 6400/7600 and 4060 that are running slower on PCIe 3.0 boards compared to PCIe 4.0 ones. This might be exactly what I'm experiencing.
The performance drops more when the board has less VRAM and when you play at higher resolution. Your RX6800 features 16GB of VRAM. The result will be near zero. Another article about the 6600 mentions it uses half the VRAM compared to your card. In most games the difference is minimal. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-r...s-scaling/ If you prefer, I’d pick the GPU with PCIe 3 x8 over running the drive at half speed. I’ve referenced this several times to support my point. If you decide to overlook it, that’s your choice.
These specs all point to 8GB RAM cards. I don’t think memory is the issue, especially since I’m playing at 1080p. Looking at the comparison below, a few games might not show any difference, but others could be noticeably slower. My main worry is about minor performance drops affecting smooth gameplay.
