I’m not sure if there’s an issue with your GPU. It worked fine before, but recently it started flickering on screen. After updating the BIOS, it didn’t fix the problem and began showing artifacts. Now it won’t display anything at all. I removed the CMOS battery to try again, but it crashed shortly after use and stopped working again within about ten minutes.

Consider reinstalling the card. If that doesn't resolve the problem, it's likely a faulty graphics card. This usually happens after replacement or if it's past warranty. You might also test the card in another device to confirm if the issue is elsewhere, such as the power supply or motherboard.

I received the card from a friend, it's a few years old, so I probably can't apply the warranty. What should I do to reset it?

Refit involves removing it physically and putting it back in again.

I had to do that to retrieve the CMOS battery, so it seems it's completely dead.

I'm uncertain if this assists, but occasionally I power up my PC and it functions properly, yet the GPU fans remain inactive and it typically freezes within five to ten minutes.
