Since the previous day, both of my GPU fans have been running at full speed even when the GPU is idle and the temperature is 18°C (it operates normally). The AMD utility I used to adjust fan speeds isn't working anymore, as well as MSI Afterburner.
What I've tried so far:
- Reinstalled the GPU driver using DDU
- Reinstalled MSI Afterburner
- Stopped fans manually and let them spin again
- Reconnected the GPU fans and checked the cables
- Reinstalled the BIOS
- Performed a power drain (held power button for 60 seconds without plugging in, then left it for 2 minutes)
- Tried using BIOS and Debian
How did this happen?
I purchased an RX570 GPU about a week ago. It was functioning perfectly, allowing me to control the fans and nothing unusual in games. Two days prior, I used my PC late at night around 11 PM. At that time, the GPU temperature was around 81°C (I ran the fans in manual mode at 35% power to keep noise low because my speakers aren’t very good). I went into MSI Afterburner since I was about to sleep, setting the fans to 100% for quick cooling. Within about 10 seconds, it cooled down to 73°C while I moved around. However, I accidentally pressed the reset button on my case, which caused my PC to shut down instantly and then restart.
I saw this and unplugged it so I could sleep. The next morning, early in the day, I turned it back on and noticed the fans were running at 100% and very loud. At first, I didn’t think much of it because I knew that when I shut down my PC with GPU fans at full speed, it would restart at 100% and then gradually adjust. After a few seconds, the fans slowed down and returned to 100%. When I opened MSI Afterburner in Windows, I saw that auto mode was active and the fans were at 30% when I switched to manual mode. I realized I couldn’t control the fans anymore, even after restarting multiple times.

- Asus Prime Z270K (no BIOS control for GPU fans)
- High Power 450W PSU
- 16GB RAM (Hybrid: 2666MHz + 2400MHz)
Please help! I only bought this GPU a week ago and I’m really low on money.

What BIOS version do you have for your motherboard?
16GB Ram hynix+adata (2666mhz + 2400mhz)
You’d really benefit from a performance boost if you had a dual channel DDR4-3200Mhz, tight latency RAM setup. Right now you’re using a car with mismatched tyres.

I’m not familiar with this PSU. Could you share a picture of the stickers on it? How old is the unit?
You didn’t mention the case make and model. What operating system are you using?

It’s used. I’d return it if there’s still a window, but if your purchase was a one-way ticket, try cleaning the GPU internals and replacing the thermal paste/pads with something better.
One more thing—have you tried GPU Tweak III?

Hey, I believe I'm using the most recent bios version. The PSU is HighPower 450, it's a one-way power supply, and the thermal paste has been updated. Performance has improved since the issue I talked about earlier. The temperature sensor is functioning correctly, reaching 67°C during the stress test, and it's detecting that the fan is running at full speed of 3500 RPM.
I'm using Windows 10 2024 on a pro gaming Blaze without the glass side panel. I recall installing MSI Afterburner, AMD software, fan control, and GPU tweaks before this issue occurred. I've plugged in six of the eight available ports since purchasing it, and everything is functioning properly. The GPU tweakers aren't helping either. The problem lies in that I'm using AMD V-BLASTER and saving my BIOS with GPU -z; the BIOS image isn't being recognized, unlike the one I can download online—it doesn't detect it as a valid BIOS file, and its size is 256kb.
I'm waiting for your reply if i should cut the gpu fan wire and manualy connect them to the header maybe they dont connect properly to it and the pwm is gone the bios image saved now works after reflashing again but fans still at 100% i tested it with only 1 fan, the problem is from the GPU i think, please help

Hey guys, I recall doing something with two RGB fans connected to the GPU. I mistakenly plugged one incorrectly, not knowing how it should be done. The setup was as follows: ground went to the power pin, the power wire connected to the RPM detection pin (yellow), and the RPM detection wire linked to the RPM control pin (green or blue). I don’t remember exactly when this happened, but it occurred that morning. I couldn’t see how the fans were connected and didn’t expect the fan headers to be symmetrical, which might have led to the wrong fan being plugged in. This could have potentially damaged the fan control chip.
