GPU fans operate at full speed unpredictably, without a clear pattern or timing.
Let me start by saying I’m still learning about hardware things. So imagine I’m five years old and you’re explaining it to me. I bought this PC a long time ago in November 2022—it was a prebuilt model from NZXT. The specs were: a big memory slot, an i7 processor, a powerful graphics card, a good video card, a case that fits well, and everything seems normal when everything is working right.
But about a year and a half after I got it, something started going wrong. The fans would suddenly act up and spin at 100% without reason. Sometimes they wouldn’t work for weeks, other times they just kept spinning back and forth all day. Usually, it would go up and down with the fan speeds changing.
I had some extra software installed like MSI Afterburner, GPU Tweak, and NZXT CAM. All of them showed normal GPU temperatures when everything was fine. But when the fans got really loud, the temps stayed low—around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius. When things got too hot, the fans didn’t turn on at all (like above 80 degrees).
I also cleaned the PC with compressed air to remove dust. I’m really worried about my GPU because if it stops working, I won’t be able to replace it right away. If anyone has any ideas or solutions, please let me know.
did you modify the fan curve?
load default configurations and configure it to auto in afterburner
eventually reinstall or remove afterburner along with similar programs, which together installed at once may cause irregular fan behavior.
update the motherboard's BIOS
monitor cpu temperatures as well
do all fans operate when under stress?
Thank you for your reply. I should have noted that I usually start MSI Afterburner and lower my GPU clock, but the fans still spin too fast when I don’t. I remember it spinning out before I adjusted the fan curves. All my fans seem to behave normally now. I think my CPU temperatures are okay. I’ll check if updating the BIOS is necessary and get back to you. Thank you again.
Check if there are any newer BIOS updates available and consider searching further. It’s possible the product came with an updated version included.
I have the most recent BIOS installed.
CPU temperatures are low to mid 50s at maximum, but settings in Afterburner remain loaded with default values and auto mode still active.
It seems I've reset the fan curve; if adjusting settings a few months ago got stuck on NZXT CAM, maybe deleting Afterburner would help.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
