GPU fails to display after driver installation
Fixed update! (Motherboard and internal PCIe lanes had problems) Now I finally managed to purchase a new PC build but have ongoing issues. My setup: AsRock X670E PG Lightning Ryzen 9 7900X, Gigabyte RTX 4080 Gaming OC, MSI MPG A1000G, PCIE5 PSU, Kingston 1TB M2 drive. Problem during Nvidia driver installation: Screen goes blank repeatedly, never returns. After booting, BIOS loads but freezes the display instantly. Once OS loads, it crashes. After multiple restarts, Windows Driver Manager removes the Nvidia driver, showing it as a basic adapter in Device Manager. The card also reports Error31 and sometimes 42. What I've tried: - Various power cables; 2x8 pin to 12VHPWR; 12VHPWR to 12VHPWR; skipped Nvidia daisy chain cable provided with GPU; installed W10 without M2, used SATA SSD, ran W10 offline; disabled Fast Boot; set PCIE to Gen4; reset CMOS; re-seated RAM, CPU, GPU; updated drivers; older chipset drivers; changed HDMI/DP settings; returned the mainboard, CPU, and RAM but still no help (thought maybe); all BIOS versions seem affected (1.09, 1.11, newest Beta 1.11AS03). Memtest passed without issues. PC operates stably without GPU or integrated graphics. Cinebench23 performed normally, no failures. Disabled OC switch on GPU and reinstalled everything. Please help if you can. I really need advice. It’s been over a month since I started building and I don’t have a PC now. - NibbleFox - Edited February 21, 2023
It looks like you've explored all the usual options. One overlooked method is the Nvidia daisy chain cable that comes with your GPU. It might not be the easiest, but it's worth a shot?
You reached out to Gigabyte support and replaced the card. You attempted various solutions, but it seems the GPU might be dead. Consider installing Linux and installing NVIDIA drivers to see if the card functions properly.
I haven't tried yet—maybe it's time to connect the GPU and PSU. It's strange how both my 2070 Super and 290X aren't working either. So, I'm pretty stuck right now.
Your screen appears to be struggling with the current resolution settings.
It seems the device remains unresponsive even after a full power cycle once drivers are set up. There might be a problem with the UEFI setup or boot process.
Yes, it remains empty until the Windows update automatically triggers after several restarts. Essentially I wait about five minutes with a blank display to confirm the NVIDIA driver is functioning before pressing enter to restart. --> Still no response. I considered adjusting the UEFI settings to improve compatibility, especially since the M2 model has an EFI partition and a SATA SSD.
