I had the Z590M Gaming X (Gigabyte) but my 3060 ti wouldn’t turn on and I couldn’t press the lever correctly. At first I thought I’d pressed it enough, but when I pulled the GPU it felt stuck. I pushed hard and the lever came loose. After reinserting it, everything worked again. I’m curious why some people say it’s broken forever if it comes off easily online.

The lever functions more like a simple mechanical "lock" for the slot, unrelated to its electronic operation. It's possible the lever was damaged permanently, though that isn't always the case. Often it simply resets itself. Regardless, handling motherboard components requires caution during installation and removal.

The process was quite challenging. The combined size of my GPU and the heatsink on the motherboard isn’t assisting much.

It relies on the lever's design—whether it's a molded part or a detachable section that attaches at a hinge. In either case, it's just an added feature. The slot functions perfectly without it.

Usually I opt for a butter knife instead. It’s not ideal, but it’s convenient. If you’re not cautious, you could damage your motherboard. The tool is long, slender, and dull, which makes it risky to use improperly. I’ve only used it once now and have continued since then.
