Hello everyone, this is my debut post – quite an adventure! I’m reaching out for assistance because I’m facing some issues with a GPi case that includes a new Raspberry Pi Zero 2. I was eager to get it running with Recalbox, but when I started it, strange graphical problems appeared. Lines would flicker in and out, both horizontally and vertically. Occasionally, brief flashes would occur. Over time, the glitch intensified, altering its appearance. During initial setup, it would freeze at the case initialization stage and refuse to proceed. Sometimes a black screen would appear, but it wouldn’t accept any input from the case and required a restart.

At first I thought the hardware might be faulty. I installed the standard Raspberry Pi OS on the Zero 2, and it worked perfectly on my monitor. I returned the original case and received a replacement, but the same issues persisted. The micro SD card functions correctly in my Windows machine. I’ve reinstalled the software multiple times, double-checked the correct OS, and even tried booting the normal Raspberry Pi OS inside the GPi case – it didn’t respond at all. After reseating the device and checking all connections, nothing changed.

I found a photo of the problem online, where someone resolved it by swapping the entire Raspberry Pi. Unfortunately, that part is sold out. I’m hoping you can help me get this working again. It’s been four months, and I really want to use it! Thanks!

Are there any concerns about the pads on the Pi? It seems the main issues are with seating or the board itself. Are you expecting a longer wait for installation? There’s a possibility it could fix itself over time, though I recall some problems with the beta version 8.0 before the official release.

I can remove the pads and check if it improves things... the biggest wait was around 20 minutes. Following the instructions should have made it faster.

Placing a card with the latest 8.0.1 update from recalscape using the provided image file took roughly three minutes without any display issues. Have you tried a different card before?

Hi there! I haven't played any new cards yet. I currently have just one, but I'm planning to go out and get a new one soon! Thanks!

Hello everyone, I've tried all the suggestions given to me. I cleaned the Raspberry Pi and inserted a brand new micro SD card inside. Still nothing changed and the issue remains. After running it for around 10 minutes with the new card, I didn't manage to pass the initialization screen. This makes me think I might need to replace the Pi. Replacing it would mean waiting until they restock. Do you have any other ideas or suggestions that could help?

I’m facing a similar problem with Recalbox. I’ve reimaged the SD card multiple times, but it’s inconsistent—screen freezes often occur when using the “have fun with recalbox” or main menu. I’ve tested several Pi Zero 2 models and different cards. Eventually, I found a custom Retroflag image on Reddit that resolved the issue, and the Lakka handheld GPI image in Raspberry Imager worked perfectly.

It seems unusual. I'm curious if any modifications to the GPi hardware recently might be affecting it.

It might be possible this way. I attempted another attempt today after returning from work, using an image downloaded directly from the recalbox site. I’m not experiencing the screen problem, but once the music starts, all the buttons cease to function. I’ve tried various combinations like select+up, yet none resolved the issue. I think I’ll stick with the Lakka or Retroflag images that work smoothly. It’s a disappointment since I preferred the recalbox version when it was on my Pi Zero 1.

I upgraded my GPI case from a Raspberry Pi Zero W to a Zero 2W and faced the same problem. I think it might be related to power supply. When I take out the batteries and connect it using the provided cable, everything works properly. I tried turning off WiFi and other devices to check if booting with AA batteries would help, but so far it hasn’t worked.
