Hi everyone, I recently purchased an ASRock RX 7900 GRE Steel Legend 16GB GPU about four months ago. It functioned flawlessly until recently, when it began to behave oddly: the screen would go black during heavy usage, while the system remained operational and sounds were audible—only the display ceased working. On my PC, launching OCCT immediately triggers this blackout, preventing stress testing. Testing the card on another machine with a smaller monitor showed it worked fine there, but OCCT still flagged errors shortly after, indicating instability under load. I also tried a Gigabyte RTX 3070 in my PC, which performed perfectly without any issues.

#RX7900GRE – FurMark
* Score: 9325
* FPS: 155
* 3D Renderer: AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE
* 3D API: OpenGL 3.2.0 Core Profile Context 25.9.1.250822
* Resolution: 2560x1440
* Duration: 60,000 ms (1 minuto)
* CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core
* OS: Windows 11 build 26100
* GPU0: ASRock RX 7900 GRE Steel Legend 16G
* Maximum core usage: 100%
* Maximum core temperature: 67 °C
* Maximum hotspot temperature: 87 °C
* Core clock: min 127 MHz – max 1881 MHz
* Maximum power: 319 WRX 7900 GRE – FurMark

My PC specifications:
* CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
* Motherboard: B550
* RAM: 32GB DDR4
* PSU: NZXT C850 Gold
* OS: Windows 11

Summary:
- PSU and PC are functioning normally.
- Drivers and Windows are current.
- The RX 7900 GRE appears to fail unexpectedly under load after months of stable performance.

Have anyone encountered similar issues with the RX 7900 GRE or other Radeon GPUs? Any guidance on diagnosing or safely operating this card would be invaluable. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
PSU: NZXT C850 Gold
How long has your PSU been used?
Before the RX 7800 GRE, what were your previous activities? Did you use DDU to eliminate all GPU drivers (intel, AMD, Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then restart to OS GUI to install the newest driver from AMD's support site via an elevated command—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator?
The RX 7900 GRE appears to be malfunctioning under stress, often failing after months of stable operation.
If your GPU is running at overclock or undervoltage, try adjusting the power slider or reducing overclocks to see if it improves.
Motherboard: B550
Which chipset do you have? What BIOS version are you currently running for this board?

You may increase the adrenalin software's power settings to observe if it stabilizes, and if so, consider sending a return merchandise authorization for the GPU as it seems defective.

Hi! Thanks for the update.
The PSU is also around three months old; I purchased it along with the GPU.
Earlier, I had a Radeon RX 6700 XT, which performed flawlessly and never caused any major issues.
Yes, I replaced all previous drivers with the new ones. I also turned off automatic driver updates to ensure the original AMD driver was installed.
The GPU doesn’t support overclocking or underclocking. I attempted to raise the power limit by 5%, but it didn’t make a difference. I’m uncertain if the setting was too low, and I’m cautious about increasing it further.
The motherboard is an MSI B550 Gaming Plus with SMBIOS BIOS Version 1.60.
Apologies if my English isn’t clear enough, thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your reply. I have already attempted that, but it continues to fail. I observed that reducing the monitor resolution to 1920x1080 makes it work, yet when trying to open applications like Adobe Premiere or a game, it results in a black screen and failure.
Edit: Thanks, I updated the BIOS and ran the test again. I’m now using my monitor at a lower resolution, which appears to resolve the issue.
However, I haven’t experienced a black screen since then, but OCCT still reports errors.

5% was initially suggested, it reaches a maximum of 20%, you can safely increase it slightly until then because it isn't working properly, but I'd keep monitoring the temperatures. Consider raising it in increments to check if it improves; overall, it looks like an RMA might be necessary.

Thank you, I'll give it a shot. I've faced issues with RMA before, but it looks like it's the best option now. Appreciate your support!
