GPU and CPU usage can be low in certain games.
i have a gtx 1060 with 6 gb, 32 gb ram, an i7 7700 at 3.8 ghz cpu. in some games like csgo and rust, my performance isn’t fully optimized for the best results. for example, if i set the lowest settings, gpu usage drops to 45-80 fps, but at the highest settings it still reaches around 99 fps, though the actual fps drops to 50-60. i’ve tried various fixes such as driver updates, reinstalling windows 10, no fps cap or vsync, but the issue remains a big problem. i can’t play the games i love and don’t think there’s a bottleneck.
How is your CPU performing? Is it consistently at 100% or does it fluctuate a lot during gaming? Could this be a CPU bottleneck?
Certain games lack sufficient active threads on average, which means they need more single-core performance at that stage. Reducing graphical quality only helps if the GPU is powerful enough, since the CPU must still communicate effectively with it. Eventually, the CPU becomes overwhelmed and can't provide enough input for the GPU to process.
So it’s not a 1060 then. It’s just what Nvidia referred to as a 1060 when you purchased your device.
