Hi,
I recently purchased an RX 6600 XT about six months ago. Initially, everything worked smoothly, but soon I faced this problem. Several titles—Snowrunner, Ghost Recon Wildlands, GTA V, Homefront Revolution, and Blade and Sorcery—all seemed affected. This issue also appears across most Steam VR games I’ve tried. I can still play some VR games in OCULUS VR mode, which doesn’t rely on Steam VR and seems to resolve the problem, though not all games have this option.

When I run these titles, my frame rates drop significantly, often below 60 fps. Some of them are quite old now, which made this situation more urgent. I’ll mention GTA V just to illustrate the point; the others behave similarly.

My GPU is around 70% utilization, and my CPU is under 70%. The game runs mostly fine, but when the GPU hits its 70% cap and I enter more demanding sections, fps plummets to low numbers while the GPU stays at 70%. If I increase demanding settings like MSAA, the GPU usage can reach 100%, yet the game still performs poorly because I can’t run it at that level. Increasing the render scale also causes this issue. This pattern repeats across all the games I’ve tested.

I’ve tried numerous fixes: updating chipset drivers, updating BIOS, reinstalling GPU drivers via DDU, disabling services and startup programs, even adjusting power plans and Radeon settings. However, nothing resolved the problem, leaving me feeling completely stuck.

Here’s my setup:
- Intel core I7-8700
- Radeon RX 6600 XT
- 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz memory
- 500 W power supply
- Gigabyte Z370 HD3-CF motherboard

I’m still trying to figure out the best solution.

I overlooked noting that during playback of the referenced games, the CPU stays under 70 degrees Celsius. It's far from reaching the thermal throttling threshold.
