gpu and cpu low utilization in games
Hello, I recently purchased a new Gigabyte RX 580 with 8GB RAM. I connected it to a Ryzen 5 1400 with 1400MHz stock speed. However, I'm experiencing frequent spikes in both GPU and CPU usage—GPU usage fluctuating between 100% and 0%, and CPU usage not exceeding 40%.
I experienced a comparable issue with my RX 580 upon purchase. It was some time ago, so details are fuzzy, likely because I handled it smoothly. I installed MSI Afterburner, set the clock speed to 1400Mhz and increased the power limit by 20%, just for testing. The GPU reached its maximum output of 175W, usually staying under 70°C during gameplay, but Afterburner indicates a spike to 77°C when playing AC Unity. Outside of that, it seems Radeon Chill was enabled, or perhaps it's one of those systems designed for lower power consumption and smoother performance.
Unless you're overheating or have features like Vsync, it shouldn't occur.
The game provides a seamless experience, ensuring fluid performance without any noticeable lag.
I might be overheating even though my GPU stays below 75°C and my CPU reports typical temperatures, which means the cooling system in my setup is really poor.
You might consider downloading the drivers, using DDU to fully remove them, and then reinstalling. If the problem persists, let us know whether the stuttering is occasional or sudden, and if it affects only certain games like Apex and CS:GO or also other titles such as 3DMark, Ungine Heaven, or Superposition.
