GPU and CPU are running at minimal capacity, and gaming isn't operating efficiently.
I recently switched my GPU from a 1070 to a 6950xt, but the improvement wasn’t as expected. I’ve been searching for fixes for a few days without success. My CPU (I7 10700k) usage stays between 40% and 60% on most cores, while my GPU utilization is typically 60% to 80%, sometimes lower. Despite this, benchmarks online suggest my system should run faster—around 200fps or more with minor lags. My temperatures are normal, peaking at 71°C after long gaming sessions and 75°C for the GPU. I’ve tried adjusting settings like resizable BAR, disabling VSync and FPS limits in games, but performance remains consistent with those benchmarks. All drivers are up to date via AMD Adrenaline, version 22.40.57.05-230523a-392410C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition. Full specs: CPU I7 10700k @4.7GHz, GPU XFX 6950xt, RAM 32GB, storage 2TB, motherboard ASUS PRIME H570-PLUS, PSU Corsair RM1000x, OS Windows 10. I’m puzzled why I’m not seeing the expected gains. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Maybe there’s a power restriction active somewhere. I once faced the same issue and it turned out my CPU performance was capped in the Windows Power Plan. Try reverting to Balanced and applying the restore defaults for this plan. It could also be another program—remember, mining software sometimes limits performance too.
