GPU activity halts, yet the PC remains powered on.
6 months back I assembled a PC and everything worked well, but around a month ago my GPU began losing signal to the monitor and the fans started spinning rapidly. This occurs while using the desktop, streaming YouTube, or playing games. It usually happens in the first 5 minutes of a game, then after restarting and launching the game it doesn’t crash. Most often I still hear the PC functioning normally. I ran a stress test with Afterburner to watch it during crashes, but it never failed. If anyone has advice would be greatly appreciated. My hardware includes: GPU MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4080, CPU Intel 13700k, RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) at 3200 MHz, Motherboard MSI - MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4, and PSU CORSAIR RMx Series RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold.
Crash your computer and then launch Event Viewer. In the left panel, select Windows Logs -> System. On the right side, click filter current log. Choose a time range such as past hour. Event Level should be set to Critical or Error. Click OK. Save the events and share them as needed.
The sole issue was needing to press the power button to turn off the computer.
Visit C:\Windows\Minidump to see if any minidump files exist. If present, return to the Windows directory and transfer the Minidump folder to the Downloads folder (use your desktop if needed). Compress the copied folder and include it in a post. Please adhere strictly to instructions since Windows doesn't allow file changes there.
It seems your operating system isn't failing; the problem likely lies with a video connection. Examine the power cable connected to your GPU. Remove it from the GPU and the power supply unit if it's removable. Look at the connectors and verify they're intact. Reattach them and observe if the issue resolves. Please share your observations. I thought you meant only the GPU fans, not the entire case fans.
