Playing Rocket League often causes frame drops between 400-500fps down to as low as 10. This issue appears only in online matches, not during freeplay or local games. No problems in other settings. When I asked friends who know tech, they couldn't help and suggested the most knowledgeable people might be behind it. My theory is that the CPU clock slows drastically from around 4 GHz to 0.8 GHz while the GPU drops from 75-80% to just 8%. This could be due to CPU thermal throttling limiting GPU performance. Temperatures are normal on a laptop but can stay high in other games. This problem seems specific to online play only. My specs include a Ryzen 7 6800H, 3070Ti (mobile), and 32GB DDR5 4800. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it can be more than one thing. For example, it can be lag in the internet connection and the CPU clock drops because it is waiting for the data to be received. To check your thermals, you should use GPU-z. Bring the Sensors tab to the front and let it run while you are gaming. Once you suffered a few performance drops, go check GPU-z and you'll see the graphs for various sensors including the CPU temps and GPU temps. Have a nice day !

It didn’t happen until recently. Once RL failed, I switched to Fortnite. The issue was less common there. I believe it’s related to Wi-Fi connectivity. Perhaps my packet handling is off.
