I recently been having trouble with my internet going down and up a lot on my computer. When I check speed-test.com, it says speeds range from super fast 750+ MBPS all the way down to just 5-10 MBPS. I tried resetting my router and using a new cable, but nothing seems to have worked permanently. This is definitely happening on the wire that goes from my modem to my PC, not the Wi-Fi itself. Last night, I did some testing for about five minutes: when I un-plugged the wire and turned on the Wi-Fi, I had a steady 250+ MBPS. But as soon as I plugged the wire back in, it would go all over the place again. Any help would be very helpful to me right now. Please note that I am fairly computer savvy but not really good at fixing networks, so if you can give me some specific steps, I will appreciate them a lot. Thanks!! Here is my equipment list: My PC has an Asus motherboard with a GPU called EVGA FTW 3090 TI and runs Windows 10. My modem is a Netgear C7000v2 which has the firmware version V1.03.08. My internet provider is Comcast/Xfinity. I have five computers connected to my PC right now. This whole thing happens while using the wired connection. One extra note: last night, when I tried to fix it, I unplugged and replugged all wires too, and also disconnected all devices from the modem. That didn't seem to help at all.
Check your computer to make sure there is only one network adapter turned on, whether it's wired or wireless. I think you are just using the wired one. Open Command Prompt type ipconfig /all (without quotes) and paste the results here. You don't have to write all that down again, just copy and share the output.

The symptoms aren't the same, but the i226 chips have problems...they can't even be fixed. Nobody knows how to spot which chips were made after they fixed the problem. This issue causes tiny network drops and shouldn't really slow down your speedtest much. Can the xbox run a speedtest? Maybe you should try booting a linux USB image instead. Most of these have a browser already installed, so just plug it in and run from the stick. You can probably do normal speedtests there. If that works, then maybe some window setting is off, but don't expect to guess which one right away. If it's also broken on linux, you might suspect hardware. Maybe the ethernet cable is bad. 2.5g ports are a bit picky with cables that aren't exactly what they say on the label, and there are tons of fake flat ethernet cords sold today.
I just ran a speed test on both my computer and Xbox before sharing the results. The PC is fast at 680mbps, but the Xbox is slow at 200mbps because it's an old original model with a bad cable. I thought the cable was broken so I bought a new one from Amazon and tried it this morning, but the problem is still there. It's weird because my internet works fine for hours or even days, then suddenly stops working badly. Back in the day, restarting the modem fixed things temporarily. Maybe rebooting again will help? I'm also thinking of trying to install a Linux USB drive (I haven't done that before), and if you have any good video guides or links, please share them! Even though it might not work for me. This PC is brand new from microcenter in late October/early November. My old computer was 10 years old and had much lower speeds than this one.
My internet was really fast all day at about 650 to 750 megabytes per second, but right around 10:20 pm in MNT time suddenly dropped a lot. It went down almost completely and is now only moving 5 megabytes instead of way more. I'm not sure if that change will help us figure out what's wrong with my connection.
I turned things off right now. I'll check how my internet is working today and tell you back tomorrow about what happens or not. Thanks for your patience.
So far, turning off IPv6 didn't seem to make my internet connection better. But later on it looks like my PC's internet is very slow when I run a game. I tried many games like Last Epoch, ROLL, Vampire Survivors, and Diablo 3 to check if the speed was bad during gameplay. It really was. I also turned off Steam's online mode while playing to see if that helped. The speed test still showed low speeds even then. When I closed the game app while it was running or in the middle of a test, my speed would jump very quickly back up from 30mbps to over 650mbps. This isn't always a problem because I used to play games before with super fast ping, but now when I try Last Epoch and websites won't load, it seems like something is wrong. Maybe this will help you figure things out?
Is this speedtest website? http://ww42.speedtest.com/ If you're not using that one, which URL are you hitting? Did you download something through it? Or did you just click some "Accept" or "Ok" buttons without checking? Try running different speed tests to see what speeds they show and if the numbers keep changing. Also, check for other apps running in the background. They might have started when your computer turned on using Task Manager, or were triggered later by Task Scheduler.
