I came across something similar by chance. My desktop theme was altering background images and accent colors frequently due to its default settings. Recently, I experienced significant lag and frame drops in a game. Disabling the theme's ability to change these elements more than once daily resolved the problem.
I don’t have concrete examples to confirm this, but it might be worth testing.

I only switch my wallpaper once a day.
Unclear why others would prefer more frequent changes
😛

I encountered a problem earlier when working on the same machine, renaming files, and it would exit the "rename box" with an error for the new keys. The issue was fixed after adjusting the settings, and it reminded me of how it was resolved in this case.
